What is Age-Related Macular Degeneration ?
Age-Related Macular Degeneration, commonly referred to in the abbreviated term of "AMD", is an aggressive light-induced ocular disease that targets the eyes' macular. Usually affecting people aged 50-60 years old, it's known to cause partial blindness leading to difficulty in activities requiring detail, such as reading and/or writing.
AMD can come in 2 different conditions, Dry AMD ; Wet AMD.
Dry AMD
As the more common of the two conditions, it affects your ability to see in fine detail. Therefore, people who suffer from Dry AMD can often have significant difficulty reading, using their phone or computer, watching TV and many more. Despite Dry AMD being the most common of the two conditions, it is the less aggressive of the two, causing an often slow deterioration of you vision. People who suffer from Dry AMD tend to also suffer from Dry Eye.
Wet AMD
As the least common of the two conditions, this is the most aggressive form of AMD that involves sudden decline in your central vision, usually in one eye. Developing in those who already have Dry AMD, the symptoms for Wet AMD are very different. Common symptoms for Wet AMD include but aren't limited to: Straight lines appearing to be wavy or swirly and/or blurring in your central vision)
How can MacuShield Gold help my Dry AMD ?
MacuShield capsules are made for those concerned with protecting their eyes from the onset or development of macular degeneration. MacuShield are also made for patients who may already have started to develop macular degeneration by slowing down its progression and preserving their sight for longer.
Macular degeneration is found to be caused by light-induced oxidative damage on our eyes and more specifically the eyes’ macula. These three carotenoids have been found in studies conducted by eye care experts to block blue light from reaching the underlying layers of the retina and so reducing the risk of macular degeneration as we grow older.
Recommended Usage for MacuShield Gold
MacuShield Gold should be taken three times a day. We recommend taking these alongside a meal.

How can Thealoz Duo help my Dry AMD ?
- Thealoz Duo contains trehalose 3% and sodium hyaluronate 0.15% in a preservative-free formulation
- Trehalose protects the epithelial cells on the ocular surface, improving their resistance to daily stress of dry environments and tear film changes in a dry eye; it has very high water retention capabilities with both bioprotection and osmoprotectant properties
- Sodium hyaluronate adds moisture by retaining water to hydrate and lubricate the surface of the eye
Clinical studies have shown that a single drop of Thealoz Duo improves the thickness of the tear film for at least 4 hours (6 times longer than sodium hyaluronate alone). In one study, 62% of patients receiving Thealoz Duo were symptom-free after 84 days, with significant improvements in blurred vision, stinging and itching.
Thealoz Duo is a hypotonic formulation (low osmolarity), which means it particularly addresses the hyperosmolarity of the tear film in chronic dry eye to effectively soothe symptoms.
Recommended Usage for Thealoz Duo
The drops can be applied as often as necessary throughout the day, and are also suitable for contact lens wearers to apply before or during wear.
Store below 25°C.
